Banfield let lead slip as Rosario Central salvages 1-1 draw

Tomás Adoryan scored from long range for Banfield, but Giovanni Cantizano equalized for Rosario Central 11 minutes from time.

Banfield and Rosario Central drew 1-1 at the Florencio Sola stadium, with about 3,500 visiting supporters in attendance. The hosts looked sharper in the first half and took the lead shortly before the break.

Tomás Adoryan opened the scoring with a strike from about 30 metres. Before the 15-minute mark, Central had replaced Gaspar Duarte with Julián Fernández. Banfield nearly doubled its advantage, but Rocky Balboa’s shot struck the crossbar.

Rosario Central then took control. Giovanni Cantizano levelled with a shot inside the post 11 minutes before the end, beating goalkeeper Ruso Rodríguez.

The teams came into the match with different priorities. Central had recently won the Argentine Super Cup and remains in the Clausura. Banfield is preparing for an Argentine Cup semi-final against Boca, while sitting 25th among 30 teams in the annual table.
