Eighteen people had voted on the machine in Candelária before it was replaced. The Electoral Court is investigating.
An electronic voting machine was replaced in Candelária, in southern Brazil, after officials suspected that the key for number “3” had become stuck. The problem was detected at about 8:30 a.m. at a polling station in Escola Eveline da Fonseca.
Eighteen people had voted on the machine before it was replaced. Antônio Maria de Freitas Iserhard, vice-president and inspector of the regional electoral court, said voting was not interrupted and that votes recorded before the replacement would be preserved.
The Electoral Court is investigating the circumstances, including whether glue or another substance was used to interfere with the key. No one has been identified as responsible.
