After a call from Flávio Bolsonaro’s campaign coordinator, Senator Ciro Nogueira said he would advocate backing the candidate through the União Brasil–Progressives federation. The group is due to discuss its formal position on October 6.
Senator Rogério Marinho, who coordinates Flávio Bolsonaro’s presidential campaign, called Ciro Nogueira, president of the Progressives Party (PP), on the evening of October 4 after the first-round vote count. The following day, Nogueira said he would advocate backing the Liberal Party (PL) candidate through the União Brasil–Progressives federation. The group is due to discuss its formal position at a meeting on October 6.
Bolsonaro’s campaign has also stepped up outreach to other parties, including Republicans and Podemos. The team believes his lead after the first round will strengthen his position in negotiations. CNN reported that the campaign hopes to conclude the talks by Thursday, October 8.
Nogueira, who served as chief of staff under former president Jair Bolsonaro, lost his bid for a Senate seat and will leave office in 2027. The PP caucus is due to hold an internal meeting in Brasília on Tuesday, October 6, with federal lawmakers and state-level leaders taking part.
Marinho has also spoken by phone with Marcos Pereira, head of the Republicans party, and the two are expected to meet in person in Brasília this week. Bolsonaro’s campaign assesses that most Republicans favor backing him, particularly given the influence of reelected São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas. Any agreement could face resistance from House Speaker Hugo Motta.
