A BJP spokesperson accused Rahul Gandhi of misrepresenting the case. The court said it had not approved a modified form and would review election commission records.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Sambit Patra accused opposition leader Rahul Gandhi of misrepresenting a Supreme Court hearing about Form 6, the application used to enroll voters. Patra said the court had not declared the form illegal and had agreed only to examine a petition alleging changes, the Times of India reported.
Patra cited the Election Commission of India’s position that the form had not changed and that the Bihar Special Intensive Revision order had been approved unanimously. He also accused Congress and the INDIA opposition alliance of trying to weaken institutions ahead of a planned march. These were political claims by the governing party’s spokesperson.
The Indian Express reported that the Supreme Court clarified it had not approved a modified Form 6 and would examine Election Commission records to determine whether a change had been made and by whom. The review was still underway in the reports.
The Times of India article carried Patra’s comments and the commission’s account but did not include a response from Gandhi or Congress.
