The Australian-listed company commissioned GexplOre to map geological structures at its Gonini and Greenstars projects and across part of the Guiana Shield.
Critical Resources has hired exploration consultancy GexplOre to conduct structural and geophysical analysis of its proposed Gonini and Greenstars gold projects in Suriname. The company secured exclusivity over the projects in September. Any acquisition remains subject to legal, title and technical due diligence.
If the deals are completed, Critical says it would acquire a 90% interest in 199 square kilometres of granted gold-exploitation rights. The first phase will focus on two target areas within the 164-square-kilometre Gonini project. A second, lower-resolution study will examine more than 6,000 square kilometres of surrounding greenstone belt.
GexplOre plans to use satellite elevation and spectral data, together with its existing database, to map host rocks, shear and fault corridors, and folding associated with gold mineralisation. The source describes the region as heavily weathered and forested, with limited rock outcrops. Critical says the remote study will help rank targets before more costly field work.
GexplOre has worked on about 20 gold projects in Suriname, Guyana and French Guiana, according to the report. Critical also points to nearby mines in the same Marowijne greenstone belt, including Newmont's Merian, about 66 kilometres away, and Zijin Mining's Rosebel, about 88 kilometres away.
The company says site visits and local introductions are planned in the coming weeks, with exploration to begin after the acquisition conditions are met. US Geological Survey figures cited in the source put Suriname's 2024 gold export revenue at US$2 billion, or 79% of total exports. Project plans and estimates are attributed to Critical Resources and the Sydney Morning Herald report.
