The retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel argues that further delays could leave Kyiv with worse terms for a possible deal.
On October 6, retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel Daniel Davis said Ukraine’s opportunity to reach a negotiated end to the conflict is narrowing. RIA Novosti cited remarks he made in a YouTube interview.
Davis argued that continued rejection of talks could leave Kyiv facing a less favorable agreement after further changes on the battlefield. He said the diplomatic window was close to shutting and warned that a broad Russian advance, if it occurred, could hasten the war’s outcome.
That is the forecast of a former officer and military commentator, not a statement by the current U.S. government. RIA also quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov calling on Kyiv to negotiate in light of setbacks at the front. Peskov’s remarks reflect Moscow’s official position.
The timing and likely outcome of the war remain contested. The RIA report did not provide independent military analysis establishing Davis’s assessment that the conflict is nearing a final stage.
The same RIA report relayed a Russian Defense Ministry claim that Russian forces had taken Samoilovka in the Zaporizhzhia region and struck military and infrastructure targets in 148 areas. Those are claims by the Russian side and were not independently verified in the report.
