Defense lawyers appeal sentences in fatal footballer brawl case

Several defendants convicted in a fight that led to the death of 20-year-old Arseny Eroshevich have appealed their sentences, court records show.

Defense lawyers for several defendants in the fatal brawl in Shchyolkovo, near Moscow, have filed appeals. The incident in August 2025 led to the death of 20-year-old footballer Arseny Eroshevich.

In early September, the Shchyolkovo City Court sentenced four defendants to prison terms ranging from eight and a half to 11 years. Depending on their alleged roles, they were convicted of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm resulting in death, group hooliganism and battery. Court records cited by RIA Novosti show that several defense appeals have now been filed.

Zikrullo Kadirov, who received an 11-year sentence, did not appeal. A fifth alleged participant, described as one of the instigators, fled and has been placed on an international wanted list.

Investigators said the dispute began at a bar on August 17, 2025. Prosecutors said Eroshevich and a friend had tried to shield female acquaintances from the attention of two men. Three more men later joined them outside, and a fight followed. Eroshevich was hospitalized with multiple injuries and died there.
