The foundation said results were at the top for obstetrics and gynecology, confirming third place globally and first in Italy, alongside gastroenterology, endocrinology and pneumology.
In oncology, Gemelli rose to second place in Italy and 29th in the world among 300 centers examined globally. The foundation said the result confirms the growing national and international relevance of its Comprehensive Cancer Center and reflects the excellence of the daily work of an entire professional community. It added that a complex care system has assisted nearly 65,000 patients from across the country, more than 22% of them from outside the region.
Gastroenterology ranked first in Italy and 11th in the world. Significant recognition also went to neurology and nephrology, second in Italy; cardiology, third in Italy and 27th worldwide; orthopedics, third in Italy and 70th worldwide; and neurosurgery, third in Italy and 75th worldwide. Cardiochirurgia, pediatrics and urology also achieved notable results.
The Newsweek and Statista ranking is based on three components: an international survey of doctors, which gathered more than 42,000 recommendations between May and June 2026 and accounts for 83.5% of the overall score; an accreditation score based on national and international quality and specialty certifications, weighted at 10%; and a PROMs implementation score, tools that measure outcomes perceived by patients, introduced by Statista in collaboration with the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM), which this year weighs 6.5%.
