The announcement was made by Guillermo Chantada, who heads the Outreach Program at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu and serves as Scientific Director of the Perez Scremini Foundation, in a LinkedIn post shared during the SIOP2026 meeting.
Chantada said the programme, which has operated for many years in Latin America from the Barcelona‑based Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, will now be offered to paediatric oncology professionals in Africa and Papua New Guinea under the banner of SIOP Africa.
He also disclosed that the global programme of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center will become a new partner, with additional backing from the Prinses Máxima Centrum for paediatric oncology and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The Sanofi Foundation was thanked for its financial support, and the announcement referenced the Sociedad Latinoamericana de Oncología Pediátrica (SLAOP) as a regional stakeholder in the initiative.
According to Chantada, the expansion marks "a new and exciting era" for continuous professional education in paediatric oncology, aiming to strengthen training and collaborative networks across the newly added regions.
