At 6 p.m. local time the ringgit was at 4.0795‑4.0840 per US dollar, up from the previous close of 4.0965‑4.1010.
Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Afzanizam Rashid said the rise was linked to a drop in Brent crude prices, which fell on expectations that conditions in the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil‑shipping lane, were improving.
He added that the easing of supply‑risk worries lifted market sentiment, helping the ringgit strengthen against the dollar and other major currencies.
