During an interview with Fox News reporter Trey Yingst, Trump said Washington is in "constant communication" with the Houthis and that the rebels have committed to refraining from any action that would target U.S. forces.
The president reiterated a similar claim he made on Sept. 12 while visiting Ireland, when he said the Houthis had called his team and expressed that they did not want to fight the United States.
Trump’s latest remarks come as Saudi Arabia, a close U.S. ally, faces heightened threats, including a missile strike aimed at Riyadh on Sept. 19 and a broader Houthi offensive that has seized large swaths of territory from Yemen’s internationally recognised government.
The Houthi advance has been accompanied by a surge in attacks on Saudi‑linked targets, underscoring the volatile security environment in the Gulf region.
Fox News also reported that Trump is in "deciding mode" on Iran, noting that U.S. and Israeli forces carried out a massive aerial bombing campaign on Feb. 28 and have since been in a near‑seven‑month stalemate with Tehran.
While Trump framed the Houthi pledge as a diplomatic win, no independent verification of the agreement has been presented, and analysts caution that the group’s operational capacity remains significant.
