National General Secretary Smriti Irani has been named in‑charge of Haryana and Chhattisgarh, while party Vice‑President Ram Madhav will oversee Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand, the BJP said in a notification released on Wednesday.
Other key assignments include senior leader Vinay Sahasrabuddhe as in‑charge of Delhi with Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and Darshana Jardosh as co‑in‑charges; General Secretary Vinod Tawde for Uttar Pradesh, supported by Jagdish Patel, Medha Kulkarni, Pardeep Varma and Anand Ojha; Vice‑President Baijayant Jay Panda for Maharashtra with Amit Malviya, Sadanand Shet Tanawade and Kamaljeet Sehrawat as co‑in‑charges; and Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh for Gujarat, where elections are slated for next year.
The party also placed Satish Poonia in charge of Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, with former Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and Rajya Sabha MP Alka Gurjar as his co‑in‑charges, and assigned Sunil Bansal to Telangana and West Bengal, where he already serves as in‑charge for Bengal after succeeding Kailash Vijayvargiya.
In addition to the state‑level changes, the BJP elevated Anil Baluni to the role of coordinator of its communication department, which oversees the national media cell and social‑media unit. Ashish Usha Agrawal, previously co‑convenor of the national media department, was promoted to convenor of that department, a post Baluni held until now.
All appointments were made by BJP President Nitin Nabin and took effect immediately, the party said. The reshuffle comes as several states – including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Manipur and the coastal state of Goa – are scheduled to hold assembly elections in 2027, positioning the BJP to manage campaign strategy and coordination across the country.
