Police said the threat, received through a phone call from Chennai, warned of a possible explosion at the terminus on the Chennai‑Bengaluru Highway (NH 48) near the Collectorate, prompting the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) to launch a swift sweep of the site.
The BDDS, assisted by sniffer dogs, inspected the entire 9.25‑hectare complex, including parking lots and bus bays that serve more than 500 buses daily, but did not detect any suspicious material.
The terminus, built at a cost of ₹53.13 crore under the Smart Cities Mission, was inaugurated by former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in June 2021 and saw a permanent police outpost opened in November 2023.
Vellore North police have registered a case and a probe is underway to identify the source of the false alarm.
Authorities emphasized that the rapid response helped avoid panic and ensured the continued operation of the transport hub, which is a key node for regional bus traffic.
