The raid was launched after the beat police officer of Kalthod village reported that a quarry at Byatiyani was operating without permission on state-owned land.
Sub‑Inspector Sunil Kumar, accompanied by officials from the Department of Mines and Geology, arrived at the site on Wednesday afternoon and conducted a thorough search.
During the operation, officers seized two tipper trucks loaded with laterite stones, two power tillers equipped with blades, and two trolley machines used for lifting the stones.
Police officials estimated the value of the confiscated material at roughly ₹16 lakh and said the haul represented a significant breach of mining regulations.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the alleged quarry operators, identified as Ravindra Poojary and Satish Shetty, with the Byndoor police confirming that charges will be filed under relevant mining and land‑use statutes.
The incident underscores ongoing concerns about illegal mining activities on government land in Karnataka, prompting calls for stricter monitoring and enforcement by state authorities.
