In a note posted on his social‑media accounts, Dhanush wrote that Rajinikanth’s film arrives a day before Om’s originally scheduled release on October 16, and that the makers have therefore chosen to push Om to a later, unspecified date.
The actor added that the postponement also aligns with the release of Suriya’s Scene, slated for November 6 to coincide with the Deepavali holidays, meaning Om will now debut after the festival period.
Dhanush said the move reflects a “mutual understanding” among big‑budget productions, noting that it prevents a rare box‑office clash between Malayalam legends Mammootty, who stars in Om, and Mohanlal, who appears in Jailer 2.
Om: Chapter 1 – subtitled “Udhiram – The Blood Wood” – is directed by Rajkumar Periasamy of Amaran fame and features Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela in pivotal roles. The film’s music is composed by Sai Abhyankkar, cinematography is handled by Ezhil Arasu K, and editing by R Kalaivanan. It is being produced by Shraddha Agarwal, Dhanush and Azmat Jagmag under the Wunderbar Films and RTake Studios banners.
A new release date will be announced in due course, Dhanush said, as the team awaits a window that respects both the industry calendar and the audience’s festive viewing plans.
