The Indian diplomatic mission in Oman announced that an Indian national was killed when the merchant ship MV Cape Dao came under attack while transiting toward India on September 23, 2026.
The vessel was carrying 19 Indian nationals among its crew, and the embassy said it is closely monitoring the situation and working with Omani authorities to ensure the safety of all crew members.
In a post on the social‑media platform X, the embassy expressed its sorrow, stating, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of one Indian national in this attack. Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.”
The identity of the attackers has not been established. The embassy said it is coordinating with the Royal Oman Police (RPSL) and remains in contact with the family of the deceased.
Officials indicated that the investigation is ongoing and that the safety of the remaining crew will continue to be a priority as authorities seek to determine the motive and perpetrators behind the incident.
