The increase was announced by Transport Minister C.P. John, who said the move will allow disabled persons to claim exemption on higher‑priced vehicles.
Until now, the exemption applied only to vehicles with a purchase price of up to ₹7 lakh and was limited to buyers with conditions such as autism, cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities or multiple disabilities.
The decision was first disclosed in the state’s Revised Budget speech for the 2026‑27 financial year, and the government has now issued a formal notification amending the Kerala Motor Vehicles Taxation Act to give effect to the change.
By expanding the limit to ₹15 lakh, the state aims to broaden access to more comfortable or safer vehicles for people with disabilities, aligning the tax policy with the budget’s broader social‑inclusion agenda.
