On Tuesday, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham addressed the United Nations General Assembly, accusing Russia of spreading lies and disinformation and announcing that London would establish a new National Centre for Information Defence.
The Kremlin responded the following day, with spokesman Dmitry Peskov saying Burnham’s remarks were “unwise” and amounted to stoking anti‑Russian sentiment that would not ease tensions in Europe.
Peskov added that the British approach, which he said was being mirrored by Germany, France and a number of other European states, was fundamentally flawed and short‑sighted.
He warned that fostering an atmosphere of “total Russophobia” does nothing to bring about a reduction in tensions or de‑escalation on the European continent.
