Naveen Shetty, president of the Dakshina Kannada District Basketball Association, confirmed the selection, noting that Shenava is a student at St. Aloysius Pre‑University College and is coached by Aditya Mahale.
Shenava joins a cohort of 17 young athletes from across the country chosen by the SAI for the scheme, which aims to nurture emerging sporting talent and provide them with advanced training and support.
The group comprises 11 male and six female athletes, reflecting the programme’s focus on gender‑balanced development in Indian sports.
Inclusion in the Khelo India Scheme is expected to give Shenava access to elite coaching, nutrition, and exposure to national‑level competitions, potentially accelerating his progress toward representing India in future international basketball events.
