Kiwanuka used his Instagram account to share the news, saying he had been battling a “severe” brain injury that culminated in a stroke a few months ago. He explained that uncontrolled high blood pressure triggered a bleed in his brain, leading to the medical emergency.
The artist, best known for the 2015 hit “Cold Little Heart,” said the stroke has left him uncertain about returning to live touring while he undergoes a lengthy recovery process. He emphasized, however, that his health challenges will not stop him from making music.
In the same post, Kiwanuka announced the forthcoming release of his fifth studio album, titled Fudge. He expressed happiness at being able to share the new record despite the recent health setbacks, noting that the past few months had threatened his ability to create new material.
“I’m very happy to be announcing to you my new album Fudge,” Kiwanuka wrote. “I’m especially happy because the last few months I’ve been battling some health problems which would heavily hinder and get in the way of me making music for the foreseeable future.”
Fans and industry observers will now watch how Kiwanuka’s recovery progresses and whether he can resume touring once his condition stabilises, while the release of Fudge offers a glimpse of his artistic resilience.
