Shehbaz Sharif and President William Ruto reviewed the progress of Pakistan‑Kenya relations and agreed to broaden cooperation in trade, investment, defence, education and people‑to‑people exchanges. The prime minister highlighted pharmaceuticals, textiles, surgical instruments and agriculture as sectors with untapped potential and invited Kenyan firms to explore projects in Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones, as well as to engage more closely with the East African Community.
In a separate meeting, Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s long‑standing friendship with Kuwait in talks with Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al‑Hamad Al‑Sabah. Both sides discussed expanding collaboration in trade, investment, energy and human‑resource development, and stressed the need for dialogue to promote peace, stability and prosperity across the region.
Informal discussions were also held with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, where Sharif exchanged views on bilateral relations and identified areas of mutual interest, though no specific agreements were announced.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar used the OIC Contact Group on Afghanistan meeting to flag Pakistan’s security concerns, calling for concrete, verifiable steps to prevent Afghan territory from being used as a launchpad for attacks against neighbouring states. Citing a recent terrorist strike in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dar urged the Taliban to honour international obligations, cease support for militant groups, and lift restrictions on Afghan women and girls, arguing that such measures conflict with Islamic principles.
Dar also appealed to the international community for increased financial assistance to address Afghanistan’s humanitarian crisis and to support socio‑economic development, reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to a stable, peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan. The diplomatic push at the UNGA reflects Pakistan’s broader effort to position itself as a mediator in West Asian and Gulf disputes while seeking stronger economic ties with African and Gulf partners.
