The drive, conducted jointly by railway squads based in Nagercoil, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Ernakulam, began at 4 p.m. on September 21 and continued until 8 a.m. on September 22, targeting both reserved and unreserved coaches on multiple key sections and trains.
The Ernakulam squad recorded the highest number of violations, detecting 285 ticketless passengers, followed by the Thiruvananthapuram squad with 225, the Kollam squad with 138, and the Nagercoil squad with 30.
Railway authorities imposed a cumulative fine of ₹5,08,005 on the offenders, underscoring the railway’s commitment to curbing fare evasion and ensuring a hassle‑free journey for passengers with valid tickets.
The operation was supported by personnel from the Railway Protection Force and the General Railway Police, who coordinated with the checking squads to enhance the systematic nature of the inspections.
Such special drives are part of the railway’s broader strategy to deter ticketless travel, improve revenue protection, and maintain orderly travel conditions across the network.
