Beckman, who began a campaign of emails, letters and social‑media comments targeting Sugg in 2022, was convicted of a course of conduct that caused "serious alarm or distress" to the YouTuber, according to the court’s charging document.
During the hearing, Beckman also admitted to failing to provide investigators with a key or passcode for his phone, an offence for which he entered a guilty plea and was supported in court by his father.
The magistrates’ court ordered Beckman to be remanded in custody at the conclusion of the hearing, citing the substantial adverse effect his actions had on Sugg’s day‑to‑day activities.
Sugg, who shares a six‑month‑old son with partner Dianne Buswell, first rose to public attention after meeting Buswell on the BBC’s "Strictly Come Dancing" in 2018, where they were paired in the show’s 16th series.
The couple announced they were expecting a baby together last September, adding a personal dimension to the case that has drawn public sympathy.
Buswell, an Australian dancer, returned to "Strictly" for the 2024 series, winning the glitterball trophy alongside comedian Chris McCausland, the first blind contestant to claim the title, after her original partner Stefan Dennis withdrew due to a calf injury.
