The complainant, 26‑year‑old Tarun, who lives in a Guindy hostel and works as a stock trader, told investigators that Venkat had approached him to invest in a short film she was producing with friends. When he declined, Venkat, accompanied by a man identified as Sanjay and two other individuals, allegedly confronted him, beat him and demanded money.
According to Tarun’s statement, the confrontation occurred after he returned to his hostel early on Tuesday. He initially handed over ₹50,000 under duress. Later, after receiving a threatening phone call from Sanjay, Tarun transferred an additional ₹3 lakh to Venkat’s bank account and ₹2 lakh to Sanjay’s account, bringing the total amount paid to ₹5.5 lakh.
Tarun further alleged that even after the ₹5.5 lakh payment, Sanjay continued to press for a further ₹27 lakh. Police examined the complainant’s bank records and confirmed the transfers to both Venkat’s and Sanjay’s accounts.
Following the complaint, Guindy police registered a case, seized an iPhone from Venkat’s residence on Dr. Ranga Road in Mylapore and arrested her. She was produced before a magistrate, interrogated and remanded to judicial custody pending further investigation.
Authorities said efforts are underway to locate the remaining accused, including Sanjay and the two unnamed associates, as the probe into the alleged extortion and assault continues.
