The seizure took place on the Madurai‑Virudhunagar stretch of the Purulia‑Tirunelveli Express, where police officers inspected luggage in a general‑compartment coach and uncovered two shoulder bags containing the narcotics.
The operation was led by Sub‑Inspector of Police (Crime) Annadurai, who directed the team that conducted the baggage search and identified the contraband.
The bags were found in the rear of the coach, and subsequent examination revealed 13.8 kg of ganja allegedly being smuggled by G. Subashkumar, 28, and R. Rana, 25, both residents of Murshidabad in West Bengal.
Both suspects were taken into custody at Virudhunagar railway station, and the seized cannabis was handed over to the authorities for further processing.
Police have opened a formal enquiry into the incident, and investigators are probing whether the haul is part of a larger smuggling network.
