The city was drenched in intermittent to continuous drizzle throughout the day, while several neighbourhoods—including Kapuluppada, Madhurawada, Padmanabham, Bheemunipatnam, Rushikonda, Gambheeram and Pendurthi—experienced heavier bursts of rain.
Minor landslips and a few falling trees were reported, but no casualties were recorded. The persistent showers caused water‑logged roads and brief inconvenience for motorists and pedestrians, though traffic flow remained largely uninterrupted.
According to the district administration, rainfall measured between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. averaged 21.3 mm across Visakhapatnam, with Bheemunipatnam receiving the highest total of 29 mm. Strong, gusty winds were also noted along the coastal stretches as the depression approached the North Andhra coast.
District officials have stepped up preparedness, activating round‑the‑clock control rooms and readying nearly 50 relief centres. Collector M. Abhishikt Kishore, North MLA Vishnu Kumar Raju and GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg inspected vulnerable hill‑slopes and low‑lying areas, and five families have already been shifted to relief centres.
Field‑level teams have been deployed to respond to incidents such as fallen trees and drainage blockages, while a 24/7 district‑level control room coordinates the response. The City Operations Centre and Command and Control Centre monitor the situation in real time, and about 20 complaints lodged so far have been addressed promptly.
