The fatal incident occurred on Tuesday evening when a wild elephant crossed the Bhavani River from the Cheerakkadavu side and charged at Bushra, 52, and her son Fasil as they were visiting the Attappady area. Bushra, the wife of Hamsa from Nayadikkunnu, Mannarkkad, sustained serious head injuries during the assault.
Police officials confirmed that the elephant’s sudden crossing of the river led to the attack on both mother and son. While the son’s condition was not detailed in the report, Bushra’s injuries were described as severe enough to require immediate medical attention.
Bushra was first taken to a private hospital in Kookkampalayam and later transferred to another private facility in Vattambalam. She succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at the latter hospital.
