The two models, part of Xiaomi’s 18 series, retain the compact rear‑screen layout introduced with the 17 Pro line, allowing users to view notifications, take selfies and run simple games on the back of the device while the front display remains hidden.
The key upgrade is the front screen’s privacy mode, which operates at the hardware level similar to Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra. Xiaomi’s version can be activated for a specific app and will automatically extend protection to notifications, floating windows and split‑screen views, without affecting other parts of the display.
Additional smart triggers let users set the privacy mode to turn on when they arrive at work, turn off at home, or activate in environments such as airports or elevators. The system can also use the selfie camera to detect nearby eyes and suggest enabling the privacy filter.
The 18 Pro sports a 6.4‑inch front display and a 7,000 mAh battery, while the larger 18 Pro Max offers a 6.9‑inch screen and an 8,500 mAh battery, both built with a high‑silicon‑content (32 %) battery chemistry.
Under the hood, the Pro is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 Elite chipset, and the Pro Max uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 Extreme version; performance differences between the two chips are reported to be modest.
Photography is led by a 200‑megapixel primary sensor (Light Fusion 960 in the Pro, 960L in the Pro Max) paired with a 200‑megapixel 75 mm telephoto lens that uses Samsung’s 1/1.56‑inch HP5 sensor, and a 50‑megapixel ultrawide camera completes the triple‑camera array.
Pricing starts at ¥5,999 (approximately US$900) for both variants. Xiaomi confirmed that at least one of the 18 Pro models will be released internationally later this year, addressing the absence of the 17 Pro from overseas markets. The company also hinted that the regular Xiaomi 18 and the 18 Ultra are slated for a spring release, while the 18 Fold remains China‑only for now.
