Commission members Undavalli Gandhi Babu and Challa Madhusudhan Rao made the recommendations at a review meeting with district officials at the Collectorate’s PGRS hall on Friday, September 25. The meeting was held during a two-day visit to the district. Gandhi Babu said protecting children’s rights was a shared responsibility and that the commission would treat harm to children seriously. He called for action against offenders regardless of their social standing, with particular attention to the safety of girls.
Madhusudhan Rao asked school managements and teachers in both government and private institutions to understand and apply child-protection policies. He also urged schools to teach children how to distinguish appropriate from inappropriate physical contact, as part of creating safer environments and helping them seek assistance when needed.
The panel said inspections of schools and colleges should cover basic facilities as well as safety. Officials were asked to examine the availability and condition of toilets, drinking water, sanitation, playgrounds and other infrastructure. The members also called for attention to nutrition, CCTV coverage and safe transport, alongside fitness checks.
Preventing child marriage and child labour, and ensuring effective implementation of the PCPNDT Act, were also identified as priorities. The commission urged government departments and non-governmental organisations to coordinate their work, framing child protection as a continuing responsibility that extends beyond schools and requires joint local action.
