The draw for the DHB Cup round of 16 paired defending champions Füchse Berlin with 1. VfL Potsdam. The match will be played in Potsdam on November 11 or 12, with the precise schedule to follow. Germany coach Alfred Gislason conducted the draw during the northern derby between Kiel and Flensburg.
The tie brings Berlin together with its partner club, currently top of Germany’s second division. Füchse managing director Bob Hanning welcomed the matchup and said the short trip was helpful given the team’s heavy schedule in the Bundesliga and Champions League.
Andreas Palicka is expected to be back in the Füchse goal by November. The 40-year-old Swedish goalkeeper is currently being covered by Potsdam’s first-choice keeper, Frederik Höler. Höler was named player of the match in Berlin’s emphatic opening win over Kuwait’s Burgan SC at the IHF Men’s Club World Championship.
The quarter-finals are scheduled for December 16 and 17. The Final4 will be held at Cologne’s Lanxess Arena on April 10 and 11. Berlin’s November visit to Potsdam therefore falls within a crowded run of domestic cup, league and European fixtures.
