Four die in helicopter crash near Montreal as investigators examine cause

A helicopter crashed at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, in Sainte-Brigide-d’Iberville, a municipality about 50 kilometres (31 miles) southeast of Montreal. All four people aboard were killed, according to Quebec provincial police.

Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, a spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, said the aircraft reportedly encountered difficulties before it went down. Firefighters put out the blaze within an hour. The four occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not released the victims’ identities and have not established what caused the crash. Bilodeau said the helicopter appeared to be a private aircraft. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada sent investigators to the crash site; their findings are pending.
