Palu campaign calls for equal access to information for deaf people

The Central Sulawesi Regional Council of the Indonesian Movement for the Welfare of the Deaf (DPD Gerkatin) held a campaign on sign language and Deaf culture in Palu on Saturday, September 26. The event aimed to expand equal communication access for deaf people in the city.

Oknasarit, chair of DPD Gerkatin Central Sulawesi, said the campaign sought to show that sign language is more than a communication tool for deaf people. It is also a right to receive information and communicate on equal terms.

The organisers presented access to communication as part of equality in public life in Palu, and sign language as a means of equal participation rather than merely an aid.
