Police responded to a church after reports that its bells were ringing continuously. Operations leader Tor Gulbrandsen told VG officers found an intense peal and had contacted church staff.
Police said a technical fault was the most likely explanation. Staff were working to silence the bells. The first report came at about 00.13, and they were still ringing at 00.30 when VG spoke with the operations leader.
No injuries or other consequences had been reported at that point. The cause had yet to be confirmed as efforts to stop the bells continued.
