At the end of his homily, the pontiff entrusted France to the intercession of the Virgin Mary and spoke of the “springs of living water” nourishing faith, hope and love among the people of God.
Leo arrived in France on the morning of September 25. His visit is scheduled to continue through Monday, September 28. On its opening day, he addressed UNESCO, urging the international community to put human dignity at the centre of education, science and culture in pursuit of a just peace.
The pope also visited Notre-Dame Cathedral, describing its restoration as a sign of hope for the whole Church. In the evening, he led vespers there with France’s clergy and religious communities.
After Paris, Leo is due to visit Lourdes and Metz.
