Sabrina Carpenter and Margaret Qualley join Tom Holland’s Fred Astaire biopic

Director Paul King, known for the Paddington films, told Variety and Deadline that Carpenter and Qualley will take the female leads. Grammy-winning Carpenter is set to play Astaire’s celebrated screen partner; Qualley will portray his older sister, who also had a dance career.

Astaire and Rogers became Hollywood’s best-known dance pair in the 1930s, appearing together in films including Flying Down to Rio, Top Hat, Swing Time and Shall We Dance. Astaire lived from 1899 to 1987; Rogers from 1911 to 1995.

The role also brings Holland back to dance. He began his stage career as a child in the London production of Billy Elliot. In July, he said returning to the studio and putting on tap shoes meant a great deal to him, describing his decision to stop dancing after the musical as one of his biggest career regrets.
