Tamil Nadu is holding an additional counselling round to fill 43 vacant super-speciality seats in DM and MCh programmes. The round is exclusively for in-service candidates in the State. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences lowered the qualifying threshold for this 2025 stray round to the 30th percentile.
Madras Medical College has 13 vacancies: seven in Cardio Vascular and Thoracic Surgery, five in Paediatric Surgery and one in DM Hepatology. Tirunelveli Medical College has seven: three in DM Neurology and one each in Medical Oncology, Neuro Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Online registration took place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Candidates could fill and lock their choices from 4 p.m. that day until noon on Sunday, September 27. The Selection Committee also listed six virtual vacancies, including seats in Cardiology, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and Surgical Oncology.
The extra round comes amid a dispute over unfilled super-speciality seats. Tamil Nadu had surrendered 151 vacant seats meant for in-service candidates to the second round of the All India Quota. In separate proceedings before the Supreme Court, the Union government said it would return 40 seats that remained vacant after that round.
