Heavy rain floods streets and buildings in several Istanbul districts

Heavy rain swept across Istanbul’s European side following warnings from the city’s AKOM emergency coordination centre. Affected districts included Sultangazi, Küçükçekmece, Bahçelievler, Bakırköy and Esenyurt.

Water on the D-100 highway made driving difficult, and crashes causing property damage were reported. Pedestrians waited out the downpour at metro stations and bus stops.

A business in Sultangazi’s Cebeci area was flooded. Flooding was also reported in homes in the Cumhuriyet and Esentepe neighbourhoods, as well as in a business centre’s parking garage.
