The JAECOO 5 SHS-H combines a 1.5 TGDi turbocharged petrol engine, two electric motors, a 1.83 kWh battery and a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). Its Super Hybrid System operates without the need to plug the vehicle into an external charger. Electric assistance is used extensively when pulling away and at lower speeds, with the model described as quiet and smooth while using little fuel.
When more power is needed, such as during hard acceleration or at higher speeds, the petrol engine and electric motors work together. Their combined output is 224 hp. The hybrid’s combined WLTP range is stated as up to 905 km. The system automatically adapts to driving demands, while the review also points to ride comfort and refinement in everyday use.
The all-electric JAECOO 5 EV has a 61 kWh battery and a WLTP range of up to 402 km. DC fast charging is rated at up to 130 kW, allowing a 30% to 80% charge in 28 minutes. Listed features include an Active Grille Shutter, scheduled charging, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), Pet Mode, Camping Mode and Parking Climate Mode, as well as remote control through an app.
Pet travel is a particular focus.
