The restriction covers acquisition, possession and carrying permits for firearms and high-powered pneumatic weapons. Transitional provisions allow Latvian citizens, and citizens of other EU or European Economic Area states, who also hold Russian or Belarusian citizenship to continue lawful weapons activity until 1 December 2026.
A separate provision concerns sport shooters. A person aged at least 21, belonging for at least 12 months to a registered shooting-sports organisation and holding at least the second sports rank in a shooting discipline may acquire or possess no more than 15 firearms and pneumatic weapons.
Gas and signal weapons that can be converted to fire bullets or expel a multi-component projectile using gunpowder or another substance will be classified as firearms, depending on their technical specifications.
Separately, Latvia’s Central Statistical Bureau began publishing in August a list of registered companies that export goods to or import goods from Russia or Belarus.
