The incident happened on Saturday evening aboard the aircraft, which was carrying 198 passengers. The crew requested an emergency landing in Lyon, where the plane landed shortly before 11 p.m. Greek time. A Lufthansa spokesperson said the crew secured the power bank in a special bag designed for lithium batteries.
Passengers and all six crew members evacuated safely. They stayed overnight at a hotel and were due to continue their journey to Lisbon on Sunday. Lufthansa apologized for the disruption and said passenger and crew safety remains its top priority.
