Moldova’s Border Police said the debris was found after local residents alerted authorities. The site was immediately cordoned off while officials establish the circumstances of the incident. The agency said it is monitoring the situation with other competent bodies and remains in contact with Ukrainian authorities.
Police urged residents not to approach or touch aircraft debris, ammunition or other unidentified objects. Anyone who finds such an item should immediately notify the emergency service on 112.
On the same day, Moldova’s Defence Ministry reported that an aircraft had illegally entered the country’s airspace in the direction of Novokotovsk, in the Transnistrian region. According to the report, about two minutes later, at 11:18 a.m., the object left Moldovan airspace, crossed the border toward Pervomaisk and continued in the direction of Lymanske in Ukraine’s Odesa region.
On September 26, Russian Ambassador to Moldova Oleg Ozerov said at an event that drones flying over Moldova could be Russian. He said Russia’s target was Ukraine, not Moldova.
Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russian and Iranian missiles and drones, including decoys, have violated Moldovan airspace 81 times; 41 such incidents were recorded this year. Separately, police said some parts of a drone found on September 24 in the Briceni district bore “Geran-4” markings.
