Reigning Olympic pistol champion Yang Ji-in will pursue her first Asian Games gold medal on Monday. She is set to compete in the women’s 25-metre pistol event at the Aichi-Nagoya Games, at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery in Toyota, east of Nagoya.
Yang will also try to help South Korea reach the team podium. At the previous Asian Games in 2023, she won bronze in both the individual and team events. She then claimed the individual gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Oh Ye-jin, the 2024 Olympic champion in the 10-metre air pistol, will compete alongside Yang in the 25-metre event. At these Games, Oh finished outside medal contention in the individual 10-metre competition but took bronze in the team event.
Weightlifter Won Jong-beom will also seek his first Asian Games gold on Monday. The 30-year-old is entered in the men’s 95-kilogram class after finishing sixth three years ago. He won silver in the 96kg category at the 2023 world championships with a 384kg total, then took world gold in the clean and jerk in 2024 with a 214kg lift.
South Korea’s men’s handball team is also scheduled to play Qatar in the semifinals on Monday at 5:30 p.m. Qatar are the three-time defending champions.
