Serbia’s Nikolaj Pimenov and his mixed double sculls partner, Lithuania’s Viktorija Senkute, won gold at the Shanghai Sprint Regatta in 1 minute 35.34 seconds. The Netherlands crew took silver in the event.
Pimenov said the team was proud to bring Serbia another gold medal at a new major event on the World Rowing calendar. He added that competing for the World Team showed they could contribute at the highest international level.
Martin Mačković, the World Team’s captain, won silver in the mixed eight. Germany took gold in 1:23.25. Coach Nikola Stojić said he was extremely proud of Pimenov and Mačković’s achievements this year, describing them as the result of years of work, confidence in their ability and patience.
On Saturday, Pimenov and Mačković won another final, the double sculls over 500 metres. The Serbian Olympians, racing for the World Team, came from behind in the second half and finished in 1:30.067. Dutch rowers Gert-Jan van Dorn and Mats van Saben were 0.673 seconds behind.
