Twelve teenagers aged 17 to 19 were injured in a shooting in the United States after a birthday gathering for an 18-year-old woman. Sheriff Davis said the young people continued celebrating in a park after being told to leave a rented apartment. Another group later arrived.
The groups exchanged hostile remarks and displayed weapons before shots were fired, the sheriff said. Investigators are working to establish whether the groups had any prior connection and what led to the confrontation.
The injured — ten men and two women — were taken to a local hospital. Two were listed in critical condition and the others were stable. Davis said there was no indication at that point that the injured had participated in the shooting.
No arrests had been made when the report was published. The sheriff said investigators were looking into several people of interest. The report did not identify the town or any specific suspects.
