The United States defended its Presidents Cup title with a 17–13 victory over the International team at Medinah Country Club near Chicago. The hosts began the final day’s 12 singles matches trailing 10.5–7.5.
Twenty-one-year-old Jackson Koivun earned the decisive point for the Americans. The defending champions also included world number one Scottie Scheffler. US President Donald Trump attended the event.
The Presidents Cup pairs 12 US professionals with an International team that does not include European players; Europe faces the United States separately in the Ryder Cup. Like the Ryder Cup, the Presidents Cup is held every two years.
The United States has won 14 of the 16 editions. The International team’s only victory came in 1998, while the 2003 contest ended in a tie. Last year, Europe beat the US 15–13 at the Ryder Cup.
