Kibor was the first runner across the finish line. Uganda’s Victor Kwemboi followed in 2:12:20, with Ezekiel Mitai third in 2:12:36. Poland’s best finisher was Dariusz Boratyński, who placed ninth in 2:19:20.
The women’s race was led by Vindics-Toth, a silver medallist at this year’s European Championships in Birmingham. Her time broke Hungary’s record and also became a new Warsaw Marathon record. Ethiopia’s Gelane Senbete finished second in 2:24:57, and Kenya’s Vivian Jerotich Kosgei was third in 2:28:24. Marek Tronina, president of the Warsaw Marathon Foundation, said Vindics-Toth improved by several minutes and took almost a minute off the Hungarian record.
The race started and finished by the Palace of Culture and Science. Runners passed the National Stadium, Skaryszewski Park and the zoo, as well as landmarks in Żoliborz, Wola, Bemowo and Bielany. The final kilometres crossed the city centre near the Royal Castle and the University of Warsaw.
In the accompanying 10-kilometre race, Ukraine’s Aleksii Pysarew won in 29:15, ahead of Mateusz Kaczor (29:36) and Adam Czerwiński (30:59). Emilia Mazek won the women’s race in 34:20, followed by Sabina Jarząbek (34:47) and Italy’s Sakina El Adel (35:06).
