The charges against the former head of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA) were announced on Monday at the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office. Investigators say two covert CBA premises were used for purposes other than intended between 2020 and 2023, when Andrzej S. led the bureau.
The former chief denies the allegations. He gave extensive explanations and said he may provide further statements after reviewing the evidence. Because the investigation and charges involve classified matters, procedural steps took place in a secure, restricted office.
Prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba, spokesman for the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office, said about 40 current and former CBA officers have been questioned so far. The investigation began in July 2024 and also concerns the bureau’s purchase of an apartment for Andrzej S. A notification filed by the CBA’s then-management said the property was expected to cost more than 1.2 million zlotys.
At the beginning of May, the former chief addressed the case in a statement published on X. He denied exceeding his authority or acting against the public interest to obtain financial gain. The charges remain allegations in an ongoing investigation, not a finding of guilt by a court.
