In the Funke Medien podcast “Meine schwerste Entscheidung,” Klöckner said alcohol-free sparkling wine can work if served very cold. Wine without alcohol, however, leaves her wondering why producers first make alcohol and then take it out. In that case, she said, people might as well drink grape juice.
She stressed that she has no objection to consumers who enjoy alcohol-free wine: if people buy it, it is a business model, and she is relaxed about that. Alcohol use, she added, calls for moderation and responsibility, particularly with regard to young people and road safety.
Klöckner also said she does not want constant nutrition advice to spoil her mood. She joked that a bad mood is harmful to both mood and health, and said she loses no sleep over not following every recommendation from nutrition experts.
Wine is part of her own background. Klöckner grew up on her family’s vineyard near Bad Kreuznach, where she was born. She was elected German Wine Queen in 1995 and held the title during 1995–96; before that, she had also been the Nahe regional wine queen.
