Slovenia will compete in the Davis Cup first world group for the fourth time in six seasons, but has yet to get through its opening tie at this level. In early February 2027 it will host Greece, making this the country’s fifth consecutive home tie.
Greece is favoured both by player rankings and the Davis Cup national standings: it is ranked 39th, while Slovenia is 58th. Stefanos Tsitsipas, formerly world No. 3, played for Greece in September. Slovenia captain Grega Žemlja said his team was unseeded and drew a stronger opponent on paper; Greece would be a clear favourite especially if Tsitsipas travels.
Slovenia and Greece have met twice before, and Slovenia won both matches: the first in 1994 and the second six years later, in 2000. Slovenia last played an away Davis Cup tie in 2024, in a regional group in Montenegro.
Of Slovenia’s last four home ties, it lost only to Turkey; it won the other three by 4–0. Turkey has ended Slovenia’s opening run at this level twice, including in Velenje in February this year, while Chile stopped the team once.
