South Korea’s KAI, POSCO International seek aerospace foothold in Mexico

South Korea’s Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) will work with POSCO International and the Mexican Federation of Aerospace Industry (FEMIA) to expand aerospace cooperation in Mexico and explore prospects across the broader Latin American market. The three organizations signed a memorandum of understanding during South Korean President Lee Jae Myung’s state visit to Mexico last week.

Under the agreement, KAI plans to develop business models built around supply-chain cooperation and seek new commercial opportunities in Latin America. POSCO International will help selected Mexican companies join KAI’s aerospace manufacturing supply chain.

FEMIA, which represents more than 100 member companies, will facilitate exchanges with Mexico’s aerospace sector, help identify potential local partners and provide information on relevant government policies.

KAI Chief Executive Kim Jong-chul said the company would build on its cooperation with Mexico to expand the FA-50 light combat aircraft in Central America and strengthen its presence in North and South American markets.
